An old saying once detailed first impressions as extreme defining moments of your character within the eyes of other people. If you are anything like me, you want to ensure any and- ideally -every first impression you make is exceptional; so whether you're headed to class, grabbing a bite, going shopping, or getting together with friends and family, these useful tips will guide you toward obtaining an effortless flair to make everyone stare, because like it or not, your fashion makes an introduction before you say anything.
- TIP 1: MAKE YOUR COLORS MATCH -
As I detailed in my very first blog post it is important for the colors of your outfit to flow in the same direction. Ensuring this will develop a more consistent aesthetic, which makes for an overall better look because you will appear more coordinated. If you would like to get a stronger feel for what I mean you can check out my 'Basic Rules of Fashion post by clicking here, but the general takeaway is to wear warm and cool tones separately and refrain from pairing black with brown or navy blue.
- TIP 2: INVEST IN AN IRON AND USE IT -
One thing I never used to do and still am guilty of occasionally not doing is ironing my clothes before I wear them. Sometimes it isn't necessary, but if you're planning to wear a blazer or shirt which hasn't been hung up in your closet it would be a good idea to run an iron over it. Smooth, crisp sleeves and pant legs look a hell of a lot sharper than super or semi wrinkly garments.
- TIP 3: BUY A BLAZER -
Just as everyone needs a pair of sneakers in their wardrobe you should also own a blazer. A neutral blazer is an extremely versatile item capable of being dressed up or down, professionally or casually. Up and coming trends, such as athleisure, enable blazers to be compatible with jogger pants or leggings and sneakers while maintaining an overall chic, off-duty model-esque vibe. Also, a really nice thing about blazers: they're widely available second hand. I've bought several of high quality name brands (such as J. Crew, Jones New York, & Oscar de la Renta- to name a few) without breaking my bank. I'll go ahead and include denim jackets in this category as well, as they are just as dynamic and popular.
- TIP 4: IMPLEMENT A STATEMENT ACCESSORY -
I know what you're thinking when you hear the phrase "statement accessory:" you're imagining a huge or brightly colored necklace or set of earrings, right? Nope. A statement accessory refers to anything- from your signature piece of jewelry to a pop of color or implementation of a print (leopard, stripes, polka dots, ect). Anything you can wear which breathes new life into an otherwise plain or simple look can be considered a statement piece.
-TIP 5: WHEN IN DOUBT, PULL A BLACKOUT -
I've mentioned here on my blog before how my go-to/favorite thing to do when I am uncertain of what to wear and must throw together an ensemble on a whim is to wear all black. Out of the numerous, countless times I have done this the method has not failed me once. All black is another way to look chic and radiate an effortlessly sophisticated aura.
